Packie Bonner performed the official opening of the new community football pitch in Dungloe and paid tribute to all involved particular Paul Greene and his Forbairt na Rosann committee as well as Donegal Local Development Company (DLDC) who helped provide the funding for the project.
Speaking at the official opening, DLDC Board member, Patrick Sweeney said it give him great pleasure to join with some notable football friends for the opening of the new community football facility. “DLDC are always delighted to assist local committees in developing projects which significantly bolster community infrastructure such as this very important project being opened today. “Forbairt na Rosann is a wholly voluntary organisation and a great “best practice” case study of how and why communities should be “doing it for themselves”. Through various Leader Programmes DLDC has so far provided in excess of €23M to some 725 projects in Donegal. This project and the new River Walk here in Dungloe are two such projects. Along with match funding by project promoters, a total of over €55M has been invested in rural development projects by DLDC in Donegal.”
A grant of close to €69,000 was provided through the LEADER Programme. LEADER is one of the main funding programmes in Donegal and it has played a major role in revitalising rural communities and the rural economy. This new play area is a testament to the success of LEADER and indeed the local community in Dungloe.
