Student Support Programme: Funded by Border Action
The primary aim of the Student Support Programme is to aid secondary school students remain in second level education within specific geographical regions in the DLDC catchment area, namely Bundoran and Ballyshannon. The programme will both identify and support second level students who are in danger of leaving the educational system early. Furthermore, the programme will aid students who wish to improve within the educational system. The Student Support Programme builds on the experiences of a previous programme namely “Teenage Troubles Student At Risk Support Programme” which was delivered by Donegal Local Development Company (DLDC) and funded by the EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation, during the period 2004-2005.
Aims of Programme:
- The programme aims to help students remain within the educational system, which may subsequently enhance their chances of further education and/ employment.
- To build an understanding within the student body of the conflict in Northern Ireland.
Programme Outline:
The primary aim of the programme will be carried out by offering students identified by the school as needing personal and educational supports various courses and supports categorised under the following headings:
- Personal Development
- Educational Support (in-term/out of term)
- Community Action
- Summer Programme
Furthermore various skills and opportunities within the local community will be sourced and assistance will be given to students to avail of any opportunities available, which may aid them to continue within the educational field and / or gain employment.
